“Aavishkar" has many meanings - discovery, development, invention.
A brain child of Dr. Nirmala S. Rao, Aavishkar was established as a psychiatric clinic in 1993 with the aim of reaching out to the emotionally disturbed. Comprehensive approach to mental health with an emphasis on counselling, psychotherapy and “understanding the person” gives Aavishkar its distinctive image.
“AAVISHKAR CENTRE FOR SELF ENRICHMENT” facilitates self-discovery and encourages people to reinvent themselves.

About Dr Rao
- Qualifications: M.D, D.P.M.
- Always a rank holder, Dr. Nirmala Rao has an excellent academic record with National & State scholarships to her credit. Hailing from Hyderabad, she completed her M.D. in Bombay University and ranked third.
- A consulting Psychiatrist based in Mumbai (India), practicing for more than 30 years.
- A number of research studies conducted at J. J. Hospital, as a R.M.O.
- Set up Aavishkar Psychiatric Clinic in 1993- the first psychiatric clinic of its kind in Mumbai.
- Dr. Rao is a Certified Trainer for Situational Self Leadership (SSL) & Presentation Skills from KEN AND BLANCHARD, USA.
- Dr. Rao has been awarded Samaj Shakti Award for Social Contribution in 2006.
- Dr. Rao is also actively involved in training the new generation of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Counsellors, & Behavioural Trainers.
